Helping you care for your chinnie

Colds and Pneumonia

On the other hand chinchillas can tolerate colder temperatures than our country can offer. What they can not tolerate is cold and wet together. This can cause a cold or even pneumonia. Symptoms to look for are a lot like with humans. They will have a runny nose and in advanced stages you will hear them wheezing. Colds and pneumonia can be prevented by housing and treating the chinchilla correctly. It can unfortunately also kill a chinchilla very quickly so we recommend that you take it to the vet as soon as the first symptoms are noticed. There are no home remedies for this.
